Install Garmin XT in WinCE 5.0

Once unlocked the GPS unit LN500 we've done the easiest part…now is hard: install GPS software and working properly.

In my case I have gone against the general trend to use Tom-Tom or IGO in the GPS unit, instead I chose Garmin by my experience with them and their map updates.

Setup.

  1. The first thing is have installed ActiveSync and have jailbroken the LG unit. If you haven't yet unlocked, read this post.
  2. Donwload Garmin Mobile XT and unzip.
    GarminXT (WinCE 5.0) + keygen
    Pass: obiwan2208
PLS, report broken links. How to download?
    GarminXT (WinCE 6.0) + keygen
    Pass: obiwan2208
PLS, report broken links. How to download?

This is not the unique version of Garmin Mobile XT for WinCE 5.0, there are several versions that may change the methods described here for installation, patching, menus, etc…I chose this version because it’s the most recent (v5.00.10) and is almost whole time in fullscreen.
  3. Insert SD card on computer.
  4. From the downloaded file unzip Garmin folder directly into SD card.

Get the serial.

  1. Remove the SD card from computer and insert into GPS. Up to 2Gb, if not the GPS unit doesn't detect it; hardware continues to be antique….
  2. Click on >My device\SDMMC\Garmin\Apps\WM\Que.exe and execute.
  3. Garmin is without unlock, so will show this screen and you must select "Connect to Garmin GPS", press "Skip" and confirm with "Yes". We accept the warning of risks and we would be inside.
  4. Click on Tools; Settings; About and will show us our ID card that will write carefully. Note: If we change card, the ID will be different, well as the unlock code.

If at any time ask us if we want to connect to other GPS, we'll say no.

  5. Exit Garmin and of WinCE explorer if is running and remove the card from GPS.
  6. Connect the card to computer and run the keygen (is within Garmin XT).
  7. On Enter your ID here fill the ID card, select Garmin Mobile XT and click on Generate. Will return us the unlock code that we'll copy to clipboard.
  8. Open Notepad and paste the serial and save as SW.UNL. in Garmin folder, be sure to save it under that name, lest may have hidden the extensions.

GUI details.

To enhance the interface of Garmin may can do a few things.

The first is go to Start; Settings; Taskbar and Start menu and mark Autohide so hide the taskbar and when you run Garmin XT can press on the main screens (desactivate Garmin online and risks of driving with GPS) that are obligatory step to access the program.

Hide the taskbar is just possible if you only run Garmin XT, and not use GPS as a PDA. Since you can't show again, because you can't access some options.

Maps.

Garmin Mobile XT comes only with the base map, so it's necessary to get our appropriate updated, in my case Spain/Portugal. It would be desirable to have the Europe map, but 8Gb card is not detected. The Europe map occupies nearly 2Gb and added with base map exceeds the 2Gb of card capacity.

The map you get must to call it GMAPSUPP.IMG, and if is requiered unlock code must to save it as GMAPSUPP.UNL. And everything into the Garmin directory of SD card, as in forums advise us that GPS runs slow if we save maps in GPS memory.

Post of Garmin maps

Automatic run.

Would be helluva that bit time when you power on GPS this running with Garmin?. This can be get by placing a shortcut on :\ResidentFlash\StartUp.

With card inserted into GPS and WinCE explorer we go to executable My device\SDMMC\Garmin\Apps\WM\Que.exe, once is selected on command bar execute File; Send To; Desktop as Shortcut. This will create a shortcut on the desktop, which we copy by holding down the shortcut and selecting Copy, and in :\ResidentFlash\Startup hold down the screen and select Paste.

Reboot and will be ready.

Notes

  • The POIs of "My Locations" I could not find how to save changes in a complete shutdown (or reboot) of GPS, so if need your own POIs will have to be external. These will placed in POI folder under format .GPI, accessing them with Where to; Extras. Related:Transfer locations from GoogleEarth to a Garmin GPS (.GPI)
  • To save space on card can be erased the voices (which more occupies) and help manuals in languages that don't use -although by safety I always leave the English language-, and EULAs.

    Howdy Obiwan
Those links above are not valid but I could manage to download Garmin XT GMXT 5_20 file but there is no img files. I have img files including 3D files from Garmin NUVI ( I believe that is Linux Based ) . Yet Image is raw image – and propriety format. I wondered if its possible to use Garmin NUVI Img file and put it in a windows CE device. I am using a cheap chinese ( CC ) in dash DVD / GPS / BT player loaded with Kudos Maps. Kudos navigator is not the smartest GPS s/w out there said the least. So more than that I can only $%#?## at it .

      You’re on right and not.

Yes, IMG is a format for CD/DVD images on raw…but in Garmin case not. Talking about IMG and Garmin in same conversation means maps.

Once you jailbroken your device and can access to WinCE OS, you can install GMXT on µSD card. It’s the 1st part of post, the method works on most of devices although there’re someones with different key entries of registry.
      https://obiwan2208.wordpress.com/2012/04/01/jailbreak-ln500/

For maps issues: download, explains, updates, etc:
      https://obiwan2208.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/garmin-maps/

And then install IMG maps, surely NT maps because NTU just works on newer devices.

Hi Obiwan, I have an insignia nav01 gps. After I unlocked it to get access to miopocket I tried this tutorial to install garmin. Everything seems to work fine but there is a minor problem. Everytime I open the garmin app, it shows me the first screen which I asume means the crack has not worked. Can you help me with this?
    Thanks a lot!

    Great post btw.

That means don’t caught the unlock code.

You must to paste unlock code “as is” no spaces, no jump in lines, etc. And must to save it as sw.unl take very careful not save as sw.unl.txt because by default Windows hide the known extensions.

Did you uncheck Hide extensions for known file types in Windows Explorer?
Problems to get the µSD card ID? or generating unlock codes?

      More info=better

I’ve noticed that JDownloader to download reports an “outdated add-on” no “offline” . Anyway would have to have been updated to the new servers.

I don’t know how it has happened, but it’s my fault, sorry .

Fixed, updated JDC to new link “GMXT for WinCE.5”, check out.

All links are OK and the JDC containers are online, can u specify the bad packet? On the other hand sometimes to directly open JDC container don't load links (links inside of JDC), but it all works fine saving the JDC container and opening locally with JDownloader (Ctrl+O).

I was working on it but could not…So sorryMaybe as was an assignment could not give all the time that I wanted to iron out everything: the saving of Favorites you mention, include GarminXT inside original menu, keep "sleep" function, etc.The only would be load the POIs as GPI with Garmin POI Loader on SD card. You can create them from MapSource or GoogleEarth and pass them to GPS, in the list of posts I describe how to transfer to a Garmin GPS.

El LN500 fue un proyecto para una persona, dado que había una fecha limite para un viaje solo pude intentarlo dos días (el resto lo consumí con la liberación e instalación de Garmin) y como supondrás no pude encontrar solución. :awww:

Maybe restore through Regedit. It's not possible using with touchscreen, was warned in post.

    Modify the registry keys:
    HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftShellAutoHide (value: 0)
    HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftShellOnTop (value: 0)

These values are modified to show the taskbar on jailbreak of device.

The issue of flooding already corrected grouping them, and I'm to help you as far as possible.

About settings (date, time…), do you mofidy the registry settings and copy files to flash memory?
